I have my assortment of obsessions, and I tend to read quite a bit. I'm rabidly devoted to Walt Whitman. Reading Leaves of Grass is about as close to being religious as I get. Whitman introduced me to poetry, and I got into reading Bukowski a couple of years ago; it amazes me how someone who drank so much could be so prolific. I also love the Beat Generation writers. Now, I look for poetry.
When I have time, I make things: jewelry, paintings, assembled pieces, books; there used to be a lot more time for art and other curious explorations before I got the brilliant idea to go for a PhD as I continue to work full time. At the same time, I think it's important to make time for creation and for beauty. Being a grad student is definitely a worthwhile experience, but it's also sort of a stilted experience.
I'm married to a wonderful Bear (since 2000) who has long since ceased being surprised by my assorted quirks and whims but still seems to be amused. We've been together since 1998, and it's both hard to believe that we've been together to for more than a decade already and hard to remember my life before he was a part of it.
